Tips for healthy teeth during the holiday season

The holiday season is full of festive foods and events.

With busy schedules and a change in routine, some oral health habits can be neglected.

To maintain good oral hygiene and avoid unwanted dental problems, consider following these oral health tips, especially throughout the holiday season.

  1. Rather than snacking on sweets, try to have them just after a meal as the saliva produced in our mouths during mealtimes can help to protect against tooth decay.
  2. Avoid sticky and hard sweets as they can get stuck in your teeth, dislodge fillings or fracture weak teeth.
  3. Rinse your mouth with tap water or chew sugar-free gum after meals and snacks.
  4. Stick to your daily oral hygiene routine of brushing twice a day and flossing once a day.
  5. See your dentist for that niggling problem so that it doesn’t cause any issues over public holidays or while you’re away. Make sure you know your dentist’s opening times during the holiday period or where you can find alternative emergency care in your area.
