Looking after your sexual health

Did you know there is a free sexual health service available in Tasmania?

Sexual Health Service Tasmania is a state-wide service with clinics in Hobart and Launceston, and an outreach clinic in Devonport.

The free service provides people with the opportunity enhance their sexual health and well-being. A GP referral is not required, however may be appropriate in some instances.

The service is staffed by doctors, nurses, counsellors, psychologists and administrative staff who can help with:

  • Sexual health checks
  • STI diagnosis and treatment
  • HIV diagnosis and care
  • Hepatitis C management and treatment
  • Treatment and management of discomfort and pain
  • Brief psychological assessment and treatment
  • Genital dermatology
  • Gender diversity and transgender care.
Counselling and psychologist services include:
  • Issues concerning identity or sexual orientation
  • Issues relating to sexual and mental health
  • Sexual arousal and drive
  • Psychological adjustment following a diagnosis.

Appointments can be made by contacting the service and speaking with one of the administration staff who can provide you with the most appropriate appointment by asking you about the nature of your concern.

The staff member you speak to will also ask you whether you have a referral, any symptoms and if you have previously attended Sexual Health Service Tasmania.

The Hobart clinic is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 5pm (closed between 1pm-2pm).

The Launceston clinic is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 4.30pm (closed between 1pm-1.30pm).

Walk-in clinic patients are seen on a first in, first serve basis. This service is available in Hobart on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm and on Thursdays from 9am until 12pm. In Launceston, this service is open on Thursdays from 9am until 12pm.
